Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis  is an immune mediated inflammatory disease that attacks myelinated axons in the CNS destroying the myelin and axon in variable degrees and producing  significant physical disability with in 20 to 25 years in more than 30 percent of patients.
Hallmark of multiple sclerosis is symptomatic episodes that occurs months or years

Clinical Features:

1. Parasthesia
2. Muscle cramping
3. Bladder bowel and sexual dysfunction 
4. Charcot triad of dysarthisa and tremors 
5. Optic neuritis 
6.Diplopia or lateral gaze
7. Heat intolerance
8. Depression
9. Euphoria 

Classification:

1. Relapsing remitting MS
2.Secondary progressive MS
3. Primary progressive MS
4. Progressive relapsing MS

Diagnosis:

Following tests are used for the diagnosis:

1. MRI
2.Visusal evoked potential 
3. Lumbar puncture shows oligo clonal bands

Treatment:

There are two aspects of treatment:
1.Immunomodulatory therapy for underlying immune disoreders
2.Therapies to relieve or modify symptoms 
3.For acute relapse treatment option for multiple sclerosis are:
          .Methylprednisolone 
          .Plasmaphersis 
          .Dexamethasone
